I know it’s Holy Week and there are more important things to worry about, like Terry Schiavo and all, but I wanted to let you know that fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker has been dumped from her lucrative Gap endorsement deal in favor of some blonde singer named “Joss.”

Joss. I ask you…!

And so goes another chapter in the war between the “interesting” looking girl (who might have a big nose and man hands, but who is also an accomplished Broadway actress and creator of one of the most endearing characters in all television series history)and the Generic, Younger Pretty Blonde.

SJP, I so feel you. If I had the dough I’d buy you a pair of Manolo Blahniks as consolation.

   It is probably true that men often prefer younger, and even blonder women as girlfriends, wives, sexual partners and mental companions for the solitary vice.

   But honey, men, as far as I can tell, don’t give a rat’s ass about who the celebrity models for the Gap are.

   Dumping Sara Jessica for Joss is a deed done, in all probability by women, aimed at influencing women consumers, and reflecting how women think about how other women look.

   All those oppressive expectations about women and how they are supposed to look, dress and present themselves are, for the most part, created by and enforced by women against each other.

3. I really don’t care who the spokeswhatever is for GAP, but I do know that if the Joss involved is Joss Stone, she’s got one of the best voices to come along in awhile. Her version of Grand Funk’s “Some Kind of Wonderful” is, er, wonderful….

5. Joss Stone is ok by me. The best Gap ad ever was Daft Punk getting funky with Juliette Lewis to the song Digital Love while wearing their trademark blinky robot helmets. They’ll never top that, so why even try.

6. I thought the very nice SJP was fired because of her dancing!!

   I think she is still a sex symbol and could help sell anything but please please never let her dance on film or in public ever again!

   (* I also thought it was a merciless firing in order to grab lots of easy pub! They are a ruthless nasty bunch.

8. I think SJP is some kind of wonderful, and loved her Gap ads. But, then, I have hit the big 4-0 myself. Yet irony of irony, I still buy clothes at the Gap, or did. Look, SJP, if you or your publicist ever read these postings, you are lovely and brave and screw them all. And by the way, you ended it at the right moment even though we miss you. Just remember that episode when you discovered your inner model, and get up off the ground and keep strutting your stuff.
