Peacebang,
You worry that you aren’t making any contribution to the larger world. But you are. Your contributions are going to those in the larger world who happen to be nearer to you.
I’ve always been convinced that “peace on earth” is a bogus goal because it’s impossible - another of those “make us feel good” goals. If you could ensure that every member of your congregation felt warm and supported and part of your church family, you’d be accomplishing the nearly impossible.
So don’t kick yourself. Hug yourself for accomplishing small miracles.

Before you deflate too much, know that I would love to go to your church and hear your sermons–what with the kangaroos and all.
Being a Christian university prof and an occasional sermonizer, I recognize your malaise.
Remember that there is One who dances at the sound of your name. The rest is bullshit.
