Here’s an alternative narrative: it really is about age discrimination. Judi Densch is well known among the 14-35 set (the new “young” democraphic) and seen as pretty darn hip–she’s smart, tough, and doesn’t take crap from anyone. Through her appearances in “The Chronicles of Riddick” and the last four James Bond films (as well as the currently filming remake of “Casino Royale”), plus her voiceover work for first-person shooter video games and vocal talents in the recent Disney cartoon “Home on the Range,” Densch is a known commodity in America who isn’t just pigeonholed amongst PBS viewers or fans of sentimental European-based cinema.
But I’m no expert on fans of morning talk shows, so maybe they include none of the above communities. I can’t say it isn’t about producers playing to the dimness of a certain viewership, but all things considered it seems like age discrimination is a viable possibility.

I really like Dame Judi Dench, but I think … enough oscar nominations already.

Shrug. She’s only ever won one. Jack Nicholson has won five.

I’ve been tired of Jack Nicholson being nominated too!
I think I’m just tired of the Oscars. I haven’t really watched it for the last few years, but the nominations list is usually pretty boring and predictable to me.
I am happy Joaquin Phoenix was nominated, though. I think he’s fantastic. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, too.
