Brief Oscar Dreams

Remember when Adrien Brody won the Oscar for Best Actor a few years ago for “The Piano?” And when he got to the stage he grabbed presenter Halle Berry and swept her into this amazingly inappropriate back-breaking, long kiss?

When Jennifer Hudson won last night for Best Supporting Actress, I thought it would have been great if she had done the same thing to presenter George Clooney. That would have been the best moment ever in Oscar History.

I think it was the most boring Oscars ever.

  1. I am happy that two young creative people from Catalonia have been awarded with the best make-up effects for “Pan’s Labyrinth” (originally “El laberinto del fauno”). Even though there is a strong tradition of skepticism about the real value of Hollywood awards (Berlin and even Cannes have much more prestige here among the cultural elites), this Oscar has been much celebrated.

  2. You know, when she walked off that stage, all I could think was–why isn’t she holding his arm, looking at him, touching him? I was actually yelling at the screen: hug him, hug him! I could not believe it; she acted like he had cooties or something. I mean, come on, he’s George Clooney–no one’s THAT nervous.

  3. She may have been too caught up in the moment, spinning around and dizzy, to have that reflex. (I know, how can one not? But if we had won the Oscar, we might go into the same tizzy.) I, however, was nearly drooling over the TV screen. Lordy Lordy, that man is SEXY.

    And congratulations to Catalonia and its artists!

    I was also happy to see the tribute to Ennio Morricone (about whom there was a great show on NPR last week, but I can’t remember what show).

    But you’re right, PB, pretty boring otherwise, and I still fail to find Seinfeld funny. Never have. Don’t get it.

    I do, however, love Ellen DeG. Classy woman.

    I missed the beginning and end of the show. How were the clothes? No, wait, that’s your other blog ;-). Excellent dress on Cate Blanchett.

    Also loved Helen Mirren’s salute to the Queen.

  4. Thanks! I agree, Morricone’s music is just fantastic. He reinvented a whole subgenre musically (the Western) out of nothing. Also the popular “The Mission”, “Cinema Paradiso”, etc. etc. I am glad that he finally got this recognition while he is still alive and in pretty good shape.
