(((grumbling about being shut out of workshops — yes, planning could have been better)))

I didn't think this was completely unreasonable. There was ballroom space that went largely unused and literally hundreds of people were turned away from Rev. Murray's humanism lecture for example.

Hi PeaceBang,

Portland was my first GA in 7 years...maybe I should not have been, but I was surprised by how rude and petty UU folks can be (eg. grumbling about being shut out of workshops -- yes, planning could have been better, but still...; answering cell phone calls during worship and workshops; verbally abusive to GA volunteers, and on it goes). I also really missed seeing the hand of fellowship offered to our newest ministers...I think that makes all of us hopeful, and that we were not able to bear witness to it removed something vital from the Service of the Living Tradition... Good things about GA: ministry days (programs were SO good), and connecting with friends from around the country...

Can we get a link to Rev. Shade's sermon for the Communion service? I'd love to read it...

I went to the UUCF communion service for the first time and loved it, loved it, loved it. I was really feeling desperate for some depth in worship at General Assembly and found it there. Halelujah and thanks. I think I've found Jesus.

Dear PeaceBang,

The UUCF Communion Service was wonderful. I loved the reworked reading of the coming of the Holy Spirit from Acts, too. More of my thoughts at the Sunflower Chalice.

I mentioned it but of course I am biased. It was, to my knowledge, that biggest single turnout for communion service we have had at a GA. At least 161. The only GAs when we have had more at communion was last year when we had two services due to being able to get repeat programming. People were still talking to me about it the next day, and with tears in their eyes, as well as from colleagues who also had tears in their eyes but also with admiration and esteem for a deep worshipful gathering. The sermon is only a part of the thing, of course, but I look forward to our publishing Tom's text in the next issue of the Good News, and hope folks will want to get a copy.

Wondering why you are demoralized? That doesn't sound like a good thing after our national gathering thing/conference/annual meeting.

Searching for updates on GA myself, especially any UU Christian doings, I found your communion service mentioned here:

http://sunflowerchalice.com/

Scroll down through Highlights of GA to find something under Eucharist.

Oh, and I'm a former parishioner (circa 2001) who adores your blog! :)

Blessings,

It was a lovely, meaningful service...one of the highlights of GA for me. Loved the liturgy and the enthusiasm with which it was presented.
