I'm not afraid to say that I purchased an US weekly to catch up on my favorite celebs love life/weightloss/baby bump. I like to be in the know. I am a big believer in ministers needing an escape from reality every now and then. And why not? We are confronted with reality far too much: who is addicted to what, who went off their medication, stories of infidelity, stories of abuse and cruelty, and a million other little pieces of the "real world" that are hidden from view in polite company. I say, if you can find something that gives you a break from all that, and that something is not harmful to you or someone else (drinking too much or some other unhealthy behavior), and do so in moderation (not a permanent escape), than hallelujah! I am guilty of reading anything that comes through the door. Celebrity gossip to cereal boxes! Of course, my conscience kicks in and asks me frequently whether I'm contributing to a cult of personality that is a horrible example to our young people. In my defense, I argue that I seldom contribute to the pocketbooks of spoiled stars and only pay attention to celebrity gossip in much the same fashion as I pay attention to accidents on the side of the road.
