Unmarried and Single Americans Week
September 18, 2007 on 9:22 pm | In Cultural Commentary, Just Funny |Well, dang, kids, it’s USA Week!
Kind of interesting to know that, as of 2004 statistics, I’m one of 89 million unmarried Americans, and 53 million who have never been married.
The best thing is that I’m pretty sure that International Talk Like a Pirate Day is sometime this week, so we can celebrate single pirates!! “Argh, matey, come here often?”

Our church youth are celebrating Talk Like a Pirate Day when they meet on Wednesday night. I’ve had this translated this for them, as a liturgical offering:
Our cap’n in Fiddler’s Green,
May yer holy name be honored;
Reveal who ye be.
Set th’ world right; Do wha’s best - as above, so below.
Let yer pleasure be done, jus’ as ’tis in Fiddler’s Green, so on earth
Give us today th’ grub we needs.
Forgive us th’ wrongs we ‘ave done,
As we ‘ave made those free who are in debt t’ us.
Do nah brin’ us t’ hard testin’, but keep us safe from th’ Evil One.
Ye’re in charge! Ye can do anythin’ ye wants! Ye’re ablaze in beauty!
Aye. Aye. Aye.

Ahoy, KQ, ye be shamin’ me wi’ yer loftiness, by Blackbeard’s bloody whiskers. Th’ reply ter “Argh, matey, come here often?” that
Oy had in min’ were more along th’ loyns of, “Me buxom beauty, ye looks like ye moyte have a foyne-fittin’ scabbard fer me cutlass.”
Ye bested me, though, so Oy orders meself ter come about, furls me sails, doffs me velvet weskit, dons me burlap tunic, pours ashes o’er me oiled ringlets, and begs King Neptune hisself fer pardon, arrh.

Wow, KG, that is truly beautiful. Seriously, the “Yer in charge, etc.” line is better than anything I heard on Rosh Hashanah!

I seriously do not understand all of this pirate stuff. I know so many UU young adults are who are into this stuff! And even my dear Michael! And his sister in law (and she’s from Japan). What IS this? I’m clearly missing a big clue.
