Stupid World Series

October 27, 2007 on 11:19 pm | In Cultural Commentary |

I would have ordinarily been in bed half an hour ago but the stupid Colorado Rockies SCORED and now it’s 6-2 and I won’t be able to sleep and this is just STUPID. Stupid stupidness. Preachers should be in BED now.

  1. Ain’t it the pits? At least you were already home when it ended. You didn’t have to fight the traffic home from Fenway at 1 AM, and then wake up again at 6 AM to rake the babysitter to early band practice, and then drive to the office and work 10 hours, they way I did on Friday. Why do they do this to us?

  2. That’s take the babysitter, nor rake the babysitter.

  3. Um, Fausto, I’m trying to look on your suffering at Fenway Park with compassion, but it’s not working, ya big lucky.

PeaceBang, Mrs P and I hit upon a fine solution last night: Go to bed in the sixth, with Boston up 6-0. We went to bed hopeful and woke up jubilant, no sweat!

Then, early this morning, as I was chilling in a Starbucks during the early service at Mrs P’s church, I listened in on a boomer joggers’ group as the bleary-eyed guys described their various approaches to late nights in Red Sox Nation. One was philosophical: He had gone to bed at 6-2, realizing that if he stayed awake until 2 o’clock only to see the Sox lose, he’d be mad, but if he went to sleep and they lost, at least he’d be glad he hadn’t stayed up. If they won, he’d be doubly happy. It seemed like a very stoical (and un-fanlike) approach, but I confess that it has become mine.

Except for tonight. You bet I’m staying up to the end for this one. See you at the victory parade!

  4. Philo, my pain only modestly exceeds Peacebang’s, but given that it is also farther in the past, with more time to heal having intervened, it’s okay with me if you throw away all your compassion on our suffering sister.

  5. I am so tired tonight that I actually napped a little bit in the 2-4th innings but now am WIDE AWAKE because I totally want to take these clowns out tonight. I really, really dislike this team; haven’t found one player to care about. I think they’re a fluke. And ZERO personality!!
