A Love Song To Max From His New Friends
June 2, 2008 on 5:14 pm | In Max Blogging | Sung to the tune of “Close To You”
by the Carpenters
To Max, who is on Avantix (”An advantage for the ticks!”) and two kinds of medication for his giardia parasite:
Why do ticks suddenly appear
every time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
CLOSE TO YOU.
Why do ticks fall down from the sky
every time you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be
CLOSE TO YOU.
On the day that you were born
the ticks all got together
and saw how soft and munchable you were –
So they launched themselves into your ears
and tail and paws
and even in your fur!
(piano glissandos)
THAT is why
all the ticks in town
follow you
all around
Just like me
they long to be…
CLOSE TO YOU
(ahhh chorus)

Ok, now I’m skeezed out. [Yea, me toos. The vet says that we live in a “high tick area.” We’re like UH, YEAH. I’m getting very adept with the tweezers and the little jar of rubbing alcohol. The only way to deal with it is to make people out of the ticks, or pretend they’re creatures from outer space or something. Greg is HORRIFIED, having moved here from Florida where he never had to deal with this with his dog. - PB]

Wow, PB, you made my blog TWICE today! Very nice doggie song. Doesn’t “giardia” sound like something Italian and pleasant? Ah, springtime in Giardia …
[YES! And since we call Max “Mr. Galiti” — a derivation of his nickname of “Sweetie Galiti” — it’s starting to sound like an Italian restaurant around here. “Mr. Galiti, you like a the giardia? With some red sauce, nice!” - PB]

As the mommy of a white spaniel who is also a tick magnet, I sympathize! I will be singing this to my girl as I comb her for ticks. I use a cat flea comb. I also possess a device that looks like a tiny crowbar that pops those suckers off without me touching them. This is war!
I am told that Frontline does not keep them off the dog but it should kill them before they can do harm.
Happy summer!

Frontline, Frontline, Frontline…
noooooo Avantix…
We’ve had MUCH better luck since kicking avantix to the curb…
good luck! [I bet some Avantix salesperson got to my vet and took them all out for drinks, because they really pushed the Avantix as the superior product. Grrrr. - PB]
