It drives me nuts how the men in our society expect absolute perfection out of our women... while they sit around with beer bellies leering at us and judging. Not all guys are this way, but a lot are. There is certainly a double-standard when it comes to what is acceptable for men's looks and what is acceptable for women.

I have never thought Sarah Jessica Parker was ugly. Some magazine voted her the ugliest Hollywood woman and I could never understand that! It makes me sad and makes me feel bad about myself and all my imperfections. Do men look at me and think I'm ugly too?

I admit to having a hostile streak toward people with wealth. And of course I serve many people in our church who have means. It helped me to hear the late William Sloane Coffin say that social justice work and the church in general depend on a certain number of wealthy people whose hearts are in the right place. I'm thinking of a dear woman in our church who died a few years ago, who gave away millions and used her influence to get others to do the same. And still I struggle.

(((And as Joe always says, “Wealthy people are two things: wealthy first and people second.” )))

Ummm... Wow.

That's really, really harsh.

Exactly what do the weathly do that robs them of their personhood?

CC
not likely to ever be wealthy herself, asking for the sake of research

Well, for me it's not a looks thing, it's a wealth thing.

I don't think I could ever identify with any of the characters from SATC because I didn't finish college, I don't have a six-figure job, I don't live in a big city any more, and I'm not obsessed with shoes and shopping and being trendy and all that. And the sex thing? Eh, I have more than enough of that; I live with a Viking. LOL!!

But when I read about or hear about these characters (I've never seen the show either; I don't watch TV) the first thing I think is "rich bitches." And as Joe always says, "Wealthy people are two things: wealthy first and people second." That phrase always comes to mind when I think of SATC.

:goes back to reading Icelandic sagas, which would make AWESOME movies because, let's face it, you CANNOT make up drama like THAT!!:

WTF? I thought SJP looked great in the movie - I noticed her mole (I thought it was a mole, not a wart!) ONCE in the whole movie, and it was in a scene where she wasn't wearing ANY MAKEUP. WTF? Seriously. Uggh. I never liked Rex Reed anyway. He's always been catty.
