George Carlin Dies
June 25, 2008 on 11:19 am | In Cultural Commentary |What terrible news.
I just adored him.
A lot of you will find this offensive, but he speaks for millions of people (albeit in a far funnier and more obscene manner than they would express the same ideas). It’s his brilliant routine on why religion is a crock, why there is no God, and why he prays to Joe Pesci.
Joe bless you, George!!
Thanks especially for that night in some city hotel when I couldn’t sleep and found one of your HBO specials on TV and stayed up far too late laughing so hard I thought I’d surely lose an eyeball.

The challenge for any theist is having to discount all the opportunists, all the bandwagon jumpers, all the Pharisees, and all the people for whom religion is a way to a) make money and b) control people for their own ends.

God bles …I mean… George is with Joe Pesci now, and all is right with the sun.
I think each generation needs a George Carlin, to question the status quo and call out those that, as Kevin said, use religion to “a) make money and b) control people for their own ends.”
I only wish we could hear his thoughts about the outpouring of attention he is getting NOW. It would be hillarious!
Thanks for posting the link PB, and for reminding me of the great man that GC was. May his comedy live forever in the minds of rational people and on cable tv.

Yes, George was awesome. For better or worse, I’ve been quoting him since I was about 10 years old (sans most of the profanity, since I’m actually not much of a potty mouth).

He was funny, indeed. What a loss.
