I Remember Neil Armstrong…
July 25, 2008 on 8:31 pm | In Cultural Commentary, Inspirations |I was just a wee lass when the U.S. made the first moon landing, but I well remember my parents’ awed tone when they called me into their bedroom to watch the event. Neil Armstrong was such a super all-American hero my younger brother was almost named Neil (he avoided that fate, thank Zeus). Now, I love the old-school astronauts and everything, but I must admit to having a wicked crush on Garrett Reisman:

Is this guy a funny, smart, cute dreamboat or WHAT? Did you hear what he said last night when Colbert asked him if, after spending 95 days in space he thought he would ever get home? Reisman said with that big adorable grin, “No…I have too much to do around the house.”
And he JUST turned 40!

Did Garrett lose all his hair when he grew an inch in space? Must be tough cleaning all that hair in zero gravity… [OH, NOW… !!

OMG, that’s wonderful! I, too, was a tot (or so) when Apollo 11 landed on the moon. My mom was a big space geek and we went down to Titusville, Florida to watch the launch, then to Miami to watch the landing on TV. Later, my brother met Neil Armstong and had him autograph his Miami Herald from that day.
But this guy is great! I wonder if they’re selecting for personality now, as well as brains. Thank you for posting this!
