PeaceBang

PeaceBang is the alter ego of a small town pastor serving an historic New England Unitarian Universalist congregation.
to do, right now
August 28, 2008 on 3:59 pm | In Mind of the Minister | Go plant those perennials before they die.
Prepare dinner so that you’re not starved when you get back from Zumba class and devour everything in sight.
Put laundry in the dryer.
Transfer worship notes for 2008-9 to Scott’s nifty new template.
Try not to be insecure that your worship plans are so much less clear and less well-organized than Rev. Perpetua’s.
Submit receipts to Office Manager soon or run out of cash before next payday.
Clean desk (again).
Write paper for discernment class tomorrow.
Don’t use blogging as an excuse to skip Zumba class or planting the damn perennials.
Stop food shopping so often and figure out how to fix what’s in the cupboards and freezer already.
Call ________________ and ___________________ and __________________about wife’s condition/membership meeting/co-officiating wedding with rabbi.
Get back to Weight Watchers this week and take the bad news like a man.
Feed the cat.
Stop thinking about that guy who hasn’t called.
Order The Healing Connection.
Make mix music CD for colleague who is celebrating a year of sobriety soon.
Send thank you note.
What’s on your list?

GREAT idea, PB, for a sobriety celebration gift. The power of music to soothe, inspire, calm and excite!

Dear Rev. Peacebang:
You’re a human BEING, dahling, not a human DOING! I didn’t see anything on your list about rest and relaxation.
[Have no fear, Nursiepoo, I did plenty of that this summer, too. - PB]

I’m going to follow your lead and try (try?) to stop thinking about that guy who doesn’t call.

I’m supposed to be mixing a CD for a friend, finishing captioning some pictures from my Colorado trip so that I can post them on my blog, and exercise (which I totally skipped today).
I got a bit side-tracked by the fact that today is what would have been the ninth anniversary of my wedding had my husband not unexpectedly died seven years ago. Bleh. I’m not looking for sympathy here. Even though I might recognize my memory of him aloud at church this week during the call for prayers (we have a moment during our opening prayers where people can say the names of people they want to memorialize, recognize, or celebrate).
I think I just need the universal energy of thoughts from everyone. For some reason, this year’s anniversary hit me harder than others. Which left me posting blog entries this evening instead of doing what I’m supposed to be doing… And then spending 45 minutes listening to the audio tape of my wedding (since my VCR is broken and I cant watch the wedding video). And then I spent another twenty minutes crying a prayer to my husband over a candle in a dark room. What a fun evening.
You’d think I’d have a handle on this by now. The “anniversary” of his death date (April 14) didnt hit me as hard as this… Maybe it’s because it’s almost ten years since that day. And I’m now officially one year older than my husband got to live (33).
Do I sound neurotic, or what?

The most important thing I have to do right now is throw a couple of things into a suitcase and get out of town for the weekend. Now, what will be on the list come Mpnday afternoon…? That’s a different story! Enjoy the weekend, everyone. Wear your seatbelt.

Rev. Perpetua is one of those remarkable UUs who is not only inherently worthy and dignified, but also inherently clear and well-organized. In fact, if PeaceBang were clearer and better organized than Rev. Perpetua, that would be scary. Plus, that wouldn’t be PeaceBang.

I’m resting–in whatever form that takes today. Maybe a little sewing, maybe a little movie-watching, definitely some reading of the new quilt magazines I just got. I’m recovering from shingles, two arms full of poison ivy and a cold, and so finally taking my body’s word that I needs a break!
Come Monday, though, that ministerial profile can no longer be ignored or pushed aside…
